Barclays expands its Claude rollout

Barclays is expanding its collaboration with Anthropic across software development, legacy modernization and customer servicing. The announcement combines a live knowledge-assistance example with future adoption targets.

A deployment already running, and targets still ahead

According to Anthropic’s Barclays announcement, the bank expects Claude Code adoption to reach 50% of its developers by the end of 2026, with a majority of engineers in 2027. Those numbers are intended adoption milestones.

Barclays described expanding Claude across software modernization and customer service work. The announcement includes a target for developer adoption by the end of 2026; that target is an intended outcome, rather than a completed deployment result.

The announcement also describes the Colleague Knowledge Assistant, live since 2025, which helps UK employees retrieve information while supporting customers. It presents the broader rollout in the context of security and governance. It does not establish that every proposed application has been deployed or that other banks will reproduce the same outcomes.
