Anthropic clarifies its usage policy
Anthropic has published a revised usage policy that takes effect on 12 November. Much of the update clarifies how existing restrictions apply as Claude takes on longer tasks and more independent actions.
The rules now spell out more of the boundary
The policy update consolidates deceptive campaigns into one section covering political and commercial activity. It also clarifies surveillance restrictions, weapons-related software, and requirements for sensitive health, legal and financial recommendations.

Review must change the outcome
- Sensitive advice
- Qualified review and disclosure
- Potentially harmful hardware
- Operator can observe and stop it
- Loss of connection
- Equipment holds a safe state
- Deception and surveillance
- Clarified restrictions

For connected hardware that could cause injury, an operator must be able to observe and stop the equipment; it must hold a safe state if Claude disconnects.
