Google expands its developer knowledge ecosystem
Google is expanding the tools around its Developer Knowledge API, a structured source of official documentation. The ecosystem gives coding assistants ways to retrieve current material through terminals, integrations and client libraries.
Documentation becomes part of the workflow
The developer announcement covers Google Cloud, Firebase, Android and other documentation. It describes search, document chunks, Markdown content and grounded question answering, with a gcloud interface, an agent skill and an MCP server.

Documentation enters the workflow
- Search
- Relevant document chunks
- Retrieve
- Markdown documents; batched retrieval
- Developer access
- gcloud, client libraries, skill and MCP server
- Grounding
- Application still needs to retain the source

Download imageClient libraries expose methods for searching chunks and retrieving documents, including batching. This provides a more structured route than scraping a website or relying on a model’s remembered API behavior. It still requires the application to retrieve the relevant material and preserve the source of an answer.
